About the Opportunity
The position of Chief Executive Officer of the Cloncurry Shire offers the exclusive professional challenge as a key facilitator in the development of this rural community.
As Council’s principal staff officer you will exercise overall management responsibility for Council’s operations. The role of the Chief Executive Officer is to:
•Act as the primary link between Councillors and the organisation and is responsible for providing assistance to Councillors in policy development;
•Provide leadership to staff in order to achieve Council’s goals and objectives;
•Oversee the financial management of the Council; and
•Communicate and promote Council’s policies to the community it serves.
•Perform under the Local Government Act 2009 and the Local Government (Finance, Plans and Reporting) Regulation 2010
The successful candidate will be an innovative leader with outstanding communication and leadership skills with the ability to understand and implement legislation and the issues that affect public policy impacting on Government.
You will have sound understanding of the interface between Councillors and staff and have the skill to be an effective conduit between Council and all its business and service partners. Respect and understanding of Indigenous culture and experience working with Indigenous people is also required.
Experience as a CEO or a senior manager with tertiary qualifications in management, business administration or other relevant qualifications will be highly considered. While previous experience in local government is desirable, applicants with transferable management skills from other sectors are encouraged to apply.
A current driver's licence is requisite and you must be willing to undergo a Police check.
The Chief Executive Officer will be rewarded with a competitive salary starting at $140,000 (dependent on experience) + superannuation, house, car and phone. Relocation assistance may also be available.
