Mundine enjoys TKO victory over McKart

BOXING: Anthony Mundine has secured an impressive technical knockout victory over Bronco McKart in his debut fight on US soil on Sunday (AEST).

Mundine was in control from the outset, controlling the pace of the fight over the first six rounds before knocking McKart to the canvas on three occasions with vicious uppercuts in the seventh round before the American’s corner threw in the towel.

Mundine had started to gain the edge in the fifth round when he landed a serious body shot which sent McKart reeling into the ropes of the Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas.

But he was unable to capitalise instantly, prompting former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes to demand more from the Australian.

“He’s a good fighter, but what he’s doing is all wrong … That macho attitude will get him into trouble,” Holmes said.

“He can fight, but he takes breaks.”

The 37-year-old Mundine is hopeful that a successful foray into the American market will open up new opportunities for his career – with the former NRL star ultimately chasing a fight with unbeaten pound-for-pound superstar Floyd Mayweather Junior.

But those dreams appeared dashed before he even took to the ring, with Mayweather Senior saying ringside that Mundine’s chances of facing his son “are probably slim to none”.

Go the Man!! Proud of you. There was no shortage of armchair experts over the last couple of day making a range of comments against you. Not I though! Understood you all along. Losers, armchairs and all, have only got themselves and hopes for popular opinion to be taken seriously. Anyway, good luck to them. And good luck to you… victory to victory is the name of the game! And it’s also your game :) Keep it up bra. Poor yankees, they gotta have something to offer you I would have thought.
