Rest in peace Aunty June Barker

Aunty June Barker.

NATIONAL: The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council and Tracker Magazine pays tribute to Aunty June Barker.

Chairman of the NSW Aboriginal Land Council, Stephen Ryan extended his condolences to the Barker family.

“The Land Rights network has been dealt a cruel blow with the passing of Aunty June,” he said.

“She was dedicated to the fight for land rights and a respected keeper of culture and knowledge along with her dear husband Uncle Roy.

“Uncle Roy and Aunty June always were inseparable, so I know this is an extremely hard time for Roy. My heart goes out to him at this very difficult time.”

Aunty June and Uncle Roy spent their later years in Lightning Ridge, developing a landmark Aboriginal museum and keeping place. The important resource is still used today by many school groups keen to learn about Aboriginal history, culture and heritage.
