GOULBURN: The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council has recognised the initiative of an Aboriginal student, his school and the local Aboriginal land council in raising the Aboriginal flag at the school.
Last year, Mulwaree High student Brandon Silva approached the School Representative Council to ask for recognition of his heritage. It resulted in the Goulburn-based school raising the Aboriginal flag for the first time in its history. Late last year, the NSWALC honoured the school, students and local land council for their roles in the campaign.
Representatives from NSWALC presented awards at the school’s 40th annual presentation evening. NSWALC also called on all schools across the country to follow Mulwaree High’s lead, and raise the Aboriginal flag in support of Aboriginal Australia’s rich heritage.
